Senior forward Brock Jacobsen scored seven of his 41 points in overtime as Crescenta Valley High rallied for a 69-63 victory over Muir Friday night in a Pacific League boys’ basketball game at Muir.

Jacobsen made the difference for the Falcons in a game which saw the lead change hands 15 times. The score was tied 10 times.

Jacobsen, who has signed a letter of intent with the University of San Diego, scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, including a three-point basket from the top of the key with 35 seconds left in regulation play that tied the score, 59-59.

Jacobsen made the basket while being tightly guarded by Duane Curtis, but the shot went cleanly through.

“Brock’s three was unbelievable,” a jubilant Crescenta Valley Coach John Goffredo said. “A big three.”

From Jacobsen’s standpoint, it lacked form but not timing.

“It was kind of ugly, actually,” Jacobsen said. “But I’ll take it.”

So will the Falcons (22-1, 7-1), who retained at least a share of first place after entering the game tied with Pasadena. Crescenta Valley is ranked No. 1 in The Times’ regional poll.

Muir (15-9, 3-5) appeared to have matters in hand, moving ahead, 58-53, with 1 minute 40 seconds to play in regulation on a layup by Curtis.

However, with 1:17 to play and Jacobsen at the free-throw line, the Mustangs’ Andre Branche was slapped with a technical foul for using profanity.

Jacobsen made three of four free throws, pulling Crescenta Valley to within two points.

After Curtis made one of two free throws, Jacobsen dribbled for position and connected from long range.

In overtime, forward Nathan Sinning, who finished with 15 points, and Jacobsen made jump shots to give Crescenta Valley a 63-59 lead.

Curtis scored all six of the Mustangs’ points in overtime. Branche, who had 24 points--including three three-pointers in the fourth quarter, was held scoreless in overtime.

Jacobsen, who made seven of nine free throws, sank three without a miss in overtime. He scored 23 points in the second half, which began with Crescenta Valley holding a 21-20 lead.

The score was tied, 38-38, after three quarters. In the frantic third quarter, the score was tied five times and the lead changed hands five times.

“The pressure was pretty tough,” Jacobsen said.

Said Goffredo: “It’s a tough place to play. I didn’t think we got a fair shake, referee-wise. But we rose above it.”

Muir fell behind, 4-0, then scored 10 consecutive points to move ahead. Crescenta Valley pulled even at 10-10 and the see-saw nature of the game began to take form.

No reserves figured in the scoring and only four players scored for the Falcons, who defeated Muir, 71-54, three weeks ago at Crescenta Valley.
