Thunder Earns Berth to Nationals
The California Thunder earned a berth in the national tournament by winning the Amateur Athletic Union 14-and-under state baseball title Sunday at Home Run Alley Park in San Jacinto.
The Thunder, from Huntington Beach, beat the Fontana Strike, 16-1. The game was called after five innings because of the mercy rule. The Thunder batted .475 in the 17-team tournament, and the pitching staff gave up 17 hits and had 35 strikeouts in 24 innings.
The Thunder advances to the national tournament, Aug. 4-11 in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
