A Night of Shooting Stars

You’ve seen her on the sidelines, now see her on the court. Dyan Cannon has been a fixture at Laker games “since before Jerry West,” she says, but Saturday, the actress will suit up and play in a benefit game for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for which she is a spokeswoman.

“Last year I scored four points and had four rebounds,” Cannon says gleefully. She had such a good time that she has coaxed two friends into joining the team this year, actress Linda Gray and singer Brenda Russell.

Among other celebrity players who will suit up for “The Salute to Greatness Celebrity All-Star Basketball Game” are Kadeem Hardison, Dallas Raines, Damon Wayans, and husband-and-wife players Anita Pointer and James Arsenal (a former Seattle Seahawk).

The game will get under way at 8 p.m. at Bren Events Center, UC Irvine campus, Bridge and Mesa roads.

“We’d like to have folks come out; it’s so much fun,” says Cannon, who is also busy developing projects at her production company. “You know if you get me out on a basketball court, there are going to be laughs . . . but really it’s for the cause; it’s something I believe in.”

Tickets are $8 through Ticketmaster or at the gate. Doors open at 6 p.m. (310) 479-8585.
