DWP Mechanic Is Electrocuted
A Department of Water and Power mechanic was electrocuted Thursday after he touched a 4,800-volt circuit, DWP officials said.
The electric distribution mechanic, John B. McEntire,33, of Burbank, touched the circuit while working at the distributing station at 6751 Woodley Ave. about 1:30 p.m., DWP spokeswoman Sandra Tanaka said. The station supplies electricity to the Van Nuys area.
McEntire was taken to Valley Presbyterian Hospital and died there, Tanaka said. Details of what happened were sketchy Thursday afternoon, but Tanaka said they would emerge in a DWP investigation.
“Our employees who work around electrical lines always face that hazard,” Tanaka said. “We haven’t had a fatality in recent years.”
