PREP NOTES

The first State high school all-star girls’ basketball game will be April 9 at UC Irvine’s Bren Center.

Although players from the Bay Area will not compete, the game will feature 10 all-stars from the North (Bakersfield to San Luis Obispo) against 10 from the South (Ventura County to San Diego); players will be selected by two regional coaches selection committees.

Tipoff is at 3 p.m. Ticket information is available though UPG Sports of Irvine at 854-8184.

Dave Connor, strength and conditioning coach at Mater Dei High, was named national high school strength coach of the year by the Professional Football Strength and Conditioning Coaches Society, the organization announced.
