Today’s “Jirimpimbira: An African Folktale” on “ABC’s Weekend Specials” tells the story of how a boy, through his kindness and generosity, saves his village from starvation. Diahann Carroll narrates the animated adaptation from the book “Tales of Temba.” The film features the voices of James Avery, Meshach Taylor and Paul Winfield, at 11:30 a.m. on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42.

On Sunday at 3 p.m., as part of Black History Month, KNBC-TV Channel 4 will present “Heroes, a Triumph of the Spirit,” which attempts to offset negative portrayals of African Americans in the media. Blair Underwood is the host.
