Montclair Prep 82, Chadwick 65--The Mounties desperately wanted to stop the Dolphins’ three-point attack.
Instead, they stopped Chadwick’s attack from just about everywhere on the court in a Division V-AA quarterfinal victory at Montclair Prep.
The Mounties (23-4) will play Brentwood in the semifinals.
Chadwick made only nine of 29 shots, six of 15 from three-point range, through three quarters as Montclair Prep built a 61-31 lead. Chadwick broke through with 34 points in the fourth but it didn’t matter.
“That was our goal--to stop their three-pointers,” said Reed Berglund, who had 26 points for Montclair Prep. “We had to fight through a lot of picks and work together to do it.”
Berglund keyed an 18-3 run to start the second half. He scored eight points during a four-minute stretch as Montclair Prep surged ahead, 51-24.
Anwan Jones scored 25 points and Akil Anderson added 12 as the Mounties made 31 of 48 shots.
Todd Ammonds had 31 points for Chadwick (17-12).
