Cristie Burnett
SCHOOL: Canyon
SPORT: Soccer
YEAR: Senior
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Burnett was the Cowboys’ leading scorer for the past three seasons and did it again in her senior campaign. The 5-foot-6 striker finished with 21 goals and six assists for wild-card entry Canyon (14-8-2), which advanced to the Southern Section Division III semifinals. “She’s always double-teamed but she’s found ways to score,” Canyon Coach Michele Braceros said. “She’s playing with a lot of confidence and making good decisions.”
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Burnett scored two goals, including the match-winner five minutes into overtime during the Cowboys’ 3-2 second-round victory over Walnut. Two days later against San Gorgonio, she scored early in the second half to pull Canyon into a 2-2 tie in a quarterfinal match, which the Cowboys eventually won on penalty kicks.
