Even Vendors Have to Make Adjustments

Share

One of the few recognizable faces in the Phoenix ballpark for an exhibition game between the replacement Giants and Athletics was that of vendor Dan Bryan, who cried, “Yummy, yummy, yummy, tickle your little tummy” as he sold peanuts, ice cream and frozen chocolate malts.

A fan asked Bryan why he was being so loud.

“I’m not used to small crowds,” said Bryan, who has been selling food in the stands for 24 years. “I’m not used to this.”

There were 1,582 tickets sold at the 7,975-seat stadium.

No, Steve Hirdt of the Elias Sports Bureau told Heyman.

“As a statistician, you record what happens,” Hirdt said. “There’s not a person in the world who wouldn’t rather have the regular players out there. But if they’re not there, we’ll record the achievements of those who are there.”
