Thieves Get $5,600 From Gardener
A gardener on his way to Mexico to deliver $5,600 to his family was robbed of all his cash Saturday night when he stopped to get gas at a Newhall service station, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.
Three men in ski masks, one armed with a handgun, also took $200 from the Ultramar gas station on Lyons Avenue, deputies said.
Deputies said the victim, Fidencio Rodriguez, was walking up to pay for gas at 6 p.m., when the robbers confronted him.
Rodriguez told deputies that his grandparents gave him the money to deliver to relatives in Mexico. The robbers also got away with about $330 in cash from two other customers inside the station, deputies said.
The suspects fled east on Lyons in a dark-colored van, deputies said.
