Facts and Figures: With perennial league-power Kennedy moving to the Empire League, Pacifica becomes the league favorite because it has the best returning pitcher in sophomore Toni Mascarenas. She had a county-low 0.11 earned-run average in the regular season. Teammate Andrea Pickett (.323) is the leading returning hitter. . . . The Mariners have seven starters and four all-league players coming back. They are also bolstered by a talented freshman, pitcher Amanda Freed. . . . Garden Grove Coach Paula Cervantes coached her 11th year, improved her record to 223-95-2, and resigned.

Highlights: Kennedy’s Lisa Pitt had three no-hitters in five days, including a perfect game against then-second-place La Quinta one day after beating Pacifica. . . . Kennedy and Pacifica also tied in one of their games. . . . Toni Mascarenas pitched three shutouts in the playoffs before finally losing to Division I champion Marina, 1-0, in 10 innings in the Section semifinals.
