MISSION VIEJO : El Toro Road Detour Route to Reopen
After hiring road crews to work around the clock this week, city officials say an access road around a washed-out section of El Toro Road will be open by this morning.
“Our workers have been sleeping in their campers on the site,” Assistant City Manager Dennis Wilberg said. “The road is important to a lot of people.”
The key roadway was washed away by last weekend’s rainstorms north of Santa Margarita Parkway. When the city laid a detour route around the damage, the temporary road also collapsed.
Canyon residents who commute north have been forced to backtrack along Santiago Canyon Road to the city of Orange. Complicating the roadwork has been the presence of utility lines within a dozen feet of the project site.
