Girls’ Soccer Team Moves to State Final

The Valley United Stars, a Reseda-based girls’ 11-and-under team, defeated North Huntington Beach, 1-0, in the semifinals of the California Youth Soccer Assn. state cup tournament Saturday.
The Stars, coached by Terry Davila, will face the Mission Viejo Gold today at Ocean View High in Huntington Beach at 9 a.m. for the championship.
Davila, who coached the Reseda High boys’ soccer team to a 23-2-5 record and the City Section semifinals, was recently named Valley-area coach of the year by The Times.
The Stars went 12-0 in regular-season play, and goaltender goalie Goalie Stephanie Perez of Canoga Park has yet to allow a score.
Cycling
John Wordin of West Hills, representing the Nutra-Fig Cycling Team, placed eighth in a field of 150 Saturday in the 100-mile McLaren Pacific Road Race at Merced.
Basketball
Registration for the American Roundball Corp. Future Stars spring league will be held at North Hollywood High at 11 a.m. and Camarillo High at 3 p.m. today and next Sunday.
Leagues are open to boys and girls grades 7-12, and players may join individually or as part of a team.
ARC also will conduct an instructional league for players grades 2-8. Registration will be held at North Hollywood High on Saturday at p.m.
