NIT ROUNDUP : Penn State Knocks Out Nebraska

Nebraska and Penn State finally played Tuesday night, although it wasn’t the dream matchup everyone wanted in January.
Last season’s only two undefeated college football schools met on the basketball court at Lincoln, Neb., with Penn State winning, 65-59, to advance to the NIT quarterfinals. The Nittany Lions next play at Iowa on Thursday night.
“There’s no rivalry between the schools really,” Penn State Coach Bruce Parkhill said. “Our motivation was that they have a 46-1 record against nonconference opponents and in the NIT at home they had not been beaten.”
Penn State is 19-10. Nebraska finished with an 18-14 record.
Penn State’s Rashaan Carlton had a season-high 19 points, including eight of the Nittany Lions’ final 10.
“I was motivated by the papers this morning that said Nebraska was looking forward to playing Iowa in the next round,” Carlton said.
Iowa 66, Ohio U. 62--The Hawkeyes (21-11) withstood a furious second-half rally to beat the Bobcats (24-10) at Iowa City.
Chris Kingsbury led the Hawkeyes with 19 points and became the highest-scoring sophomore in Iowa history with 539 points, topping the mark Greg Stokes set in 1983.
The Bobcats were led by Gary Trent’s 18 points.
