SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Mike Price overtook Valencia’s Dana Moore on the 21st lap of the NASCAR Street Stock main event and won by half a car length in preseason racing Saturday night at Saugus Speedway.

Moore, who started in the sixth position, led most of the 25-lap event, but lost his lead when Price passed him on the third turn.

Several crashes marred the main event, including one involving Dustin Shepphird and Richard Russo of Newhall.

On the eighth lap, Shepphird’s car spun out in the third turn. When he attempted to reach the infield during a yellow flag, Shepphird collided with Russo head-on.

Russo did not continue, and Shepphird drove until car troubles forced him out on the 13th lap.

Also a casualty during the main event was Augie Schultz from Lancaster.

Schultz drove five laps with the front fender of another driver’s car stuck to his bumper. He completed four laps with the clipped fender dragging behind him on the track before having to leave the race.

Moore won the trophy dash in street stock, and Price won the figure-8 trophy dash.

In the mini-stocks, Robert Hines won the six-lap trophy dash. In the super-late models, Dennis Logue won the trophy dash.

Simi Valley’s Rich Ellison was first in a shortened mini-stock main event.

Originally scheduled for 25 laps, it was cut down to 10 when too many delays occurred, and several cars were unable to complete the event.

Ellison finished a car length ahead of Ray Maxon. Hines finished in third place.
