COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Chapman Extends Softball Streak to 21

The Chapman softball team extended its winning streak to 21 games by rallying to beat Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.), 12-4, in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday at Hart Park.

Trailing 4-2, the Panthers (23-2) scored three in the third and six in the fifth and the game was stopped in the sixth because of the mercy rule. Jessamine Maiben hit her fifth home run of the season and Lisa Cancilla hit her second home run in two days.

Chapman, ranked No. 1 in the West Region, won the first game, 12-0.

In Big West Conference softball:

Cal State Fullerton 3-3, UNLV 2-4--Jennifer Mortensen gave up two runs and two hits to earn the victory and Chris Zboril had two hits and two runs scored in the first game for thevisiting Titans. Brandi Isgar (10-3) gave up one earned run and seven hits in the second-game loss. Zboril had three hits and two RBIs for the Titans.

In Big West Conference women’s tennis:

CS Fullerton 8, San Jose State 1--After losing the first set 6-2, Fullerton’s Kara Kolb defeated Michelle Matro, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. Fullerton is 9-7, 2-0 in the conference.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

Chapman 5, La Verne 4--Chapman’s Sheryl Kalbach defeated Misha Kellog in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Kalbach, along with her partner Jolee Lautaret, won in No. 1 doubles, beating Wendy Dawson and Kellog, 3-6, 6-4, 4-1. Chapman is 3-8.
