The Los Angeles City Council is offering rewards totaling $20,000 for information leading to arrests in the separate muggings of two elderly Hollywood men.

Both assaults are thought to have been committed by an individual or group of people targeting elderly victims, said Los Angeles Police Detective John Miller.

On Jan. 13, Mortimer Masure, 86, was in the underground garage of his Hollywood Hills apartment building when he was assaulted and robbed of his wallet, Miller said.

Masure was beaten and sustained severe head injuries.

Less then a block away, Nat Klitnick, 88, was attacked Feb. 5 while he was removing groceries from his car in the underground garage of his condominium complex.

Klitnick was badly beaten and suffered facial injuries, including a broken nose and partial loss of vision in his right eye, Miller said.

“The suspects are hitting elderly men, lying in wait and attacking them from behind while in an underground garage,” Miller said. “In both incidents, they took the men’s cash and wallets while leaving other valuables.”

Police are asking anyone with information to call Miller or Detective Wendi Berndt at (213) 485-6410.
