COLLEGE BASEBALL : Hancock Pierced by Warren

Right-hander Jason Warren, rebounding from a bout with dehydration, pitched a six-hitter Tuesday to lead Pierce College to an 8-2 victory over Hancock in a Western State Conference baseball game between division leaders at Hancock.

Warren (4-3) scattered six singles and had two strikeouts. On Thursday, after pitching seven innings in a 10-2 victory at Santa Barbara, Warren was hospitalized and administered fluids intravenously.

Pierce (16-12, 12-2) leads the WSC South Division. Hancock (9-5 in conference) leads the conference’s North Division.

Cesar Martinez’s two-run home run in the second inning snapped a 2-2 tie. John Novak closed out the scoring with a two-run homer in the ninth. Pierce’s Mike Glendenning was three for three, including a run-scoring double in the first.

Ventura 8, Valley 0--Victor Moreno’s bases-loaded triple in the first inning started the WSC interdivisional blowout by the Pirates (15-8-1, 9-5) at Ventura.

Brandon Knight (9-2) drove in two runs with a second-inning double, and struck out five in his third shutout and ninth complete game.

Santa Barbara 9, Mission 8--Doug Jarvis had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs for the Free Spirit, who blew a 5-1 lead and suffered a WSC interdivision setback at Santa Barbara.

Anthony Martinez had two hits and scored two runs, and John Toven added two hits for the Free Spirit (6-22, 2-12).

Desert 5, Antelope Valley 2--Chris Grado and Marcus Armstrong each had two hits for the Marauders (12-13, 7-9) in a Foothill Conference defeat at Palm Desert.

Moorpark 6, Canyons 5--Pat Queenan walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive home the winning run for the Raiders (19-9, 9-5) in a WSC interdivision game at Moorpark College.

Moorpark’s Keith Loitz relieved in the fifth shut out the Cougars for four innings.
