SANTA ANITA : Sunday’s Santa Barbara Draws a Field of Eight
A field of eight headed by Aube Indienne was entered Friday in Sunday’s $200,000-added Santa Barbara Handicap at Santa Anita.
Aube Indienne will be ridden by Kent Desormeaux and was assigned high weight of 120 pounds for the 47th running of the 1 1/4-mile race for older fillies and mares on Santa Anita’s turf course.
Others entered were Wandesta, who will be ridden by Corey Nakatani and was assigned 118 pounds; Yearly Tour, Chris McCarron, 116; Morgana, Eddie Delahoussaye, 116; Ask Anita, Gary Stevens, 113; Capracotta, Pat Day, 113; Real Connection, Goncalino Almeida, 112, and Comply, Alex Solis, 111.
A 5-year-old French-bred mare trained by Charlie Whittingham, Aube Indienne has won five of her 23 lifetime starts and earned $523,565.
Aube Indienne won the Yellow Ribbon Invitational Handicap and Las Palmas Handicap last year. In her most recent start, the Santa Ana Handicap on March 18, she came off a four-month layoff to finish third behind Wandesta and Yearly Tour.
