TUSTIN
Students Represent Libya at Model U.N.
Ten students from Tustin High School recently competed in the North American Invitational Model United Nations conference in Washington.
More than 3,000 high school students from across the United States, Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico and other parts of the Caribbean attended the conference, sponsored by Georgetown University’s School of International Relations.
The students represented countries and drafted resolutions dealing with international economic, political and environmental issues. The Tustin team represented Libya.
The members of the team were Bridget Black, Cindy Cheng, Geoff Ching, Naomi Halili, Cambria Jenkins, Erin Karels, Jimmy Lee, Tannis Little, Stacey Wilson and Ryan Wermes.*

State Group Honors Health Careers Effort
Westminster High School’s Health Science Careers Academy has received a plaque and $100 award from the California Career Education Assn.
Jean Woesner presented the award recently at a meeting of the Huntington Beach Union High School District.
Woesner said the annual award “recognizes a program that is preparing students for life.”

School Boosters Try to Prevent a Layoff
Project SEEK, the parents’ booster club at McGaugh Elementary School, is trying to raise $5,500 to prevent the layoff of a computer specialist at the school’s media center.
Georgia Freedman-Harvey and Susan Frisk are spearheading the fund-raising drive. Freedman-Harvey said the group has received donations ranging from $10 to $1,000. She may be contacted at (310) 493-3634.
So far this school year, the group has raised about $50,000 from private donations, part of which were used to save music and physical education programs that were in danger of being cut.

Coin Drive Buys Blankets for Poor
Fountain Valley High School’s Coin from the Heart Project, a monthlong coin drive sponsored by the Economics Club, raised enough money to buy 175 blankets for the homeless in Orange County.
The students’ goal was to buy 100 survival blankets. But overwhelming response from students and staff members helped the club to exceed its goal.
The blankets were donated to Covering Wings, a homeless advocacy group that distributes blankets to people in need.
