COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans Rally to Beat Irvine in Women’s Tennis

After Cal State Fullerton lost in Nos. 1 and 2 singles, Christa Hanson beat Nina Basica, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 singles and the Titans won the next three single sets and the match, 5-4, in Big West women’s tennis Thursday at UC Irvine.

At No. 4 singles, Renee Ivy defeated UCI’s Tiffany Licuanan, 6-3, 6-1. Jennifer Canfield beat Mary Morr, 6-1, 6-2 and Nicole Kilian edged Rachel Buenviaje, 6-3, 6-4.

The Anteaters won at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles but were defeated at No. 3, Fullerton’s Canfield and Ivy beat Morr and Licuanan, 6-0, 6-0.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s tennis:

Pt. Loma Nazarene 5, Southern California College 4--Quynh Le beat Marni Hunt at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2, for Southern California College (10-6, 2-4).

In nonconference baseball:

Cal Lutheran 10, Concordia 9 (11)--Ray Arvisu drove in the winning run with a single in the 11th. Cal Lutheran benefited from 13 walks and three hit batters. Travis Protzeller doubled and walked twice and Sean Smith singled and walked four times for Cal Lutheran (18-10). Derrick Bly hit a grand slam in the eighth to tie the score, 9-9, for Concordia (15-24).
