ROUNDUP : Hart Reliever Graves Earns Victory and Save in Doubleheader

Sophomore left-hander Bobby Graves, pitching for the first time since breaking a bone in his throwing arm before the season, picked up a victory and a save in relief Saturday as Hart High won its 14th consecutive straight game and swept a nonleague doubleheader from Crespi, winning 5-4 and 7-4 at Hart.

Graves pitched the final 2 2/3 innings in the opener, allowing two hits and two runs and striking out three to earn his first save. Ron Jones, who transferred from Crespi in the off-season, pitched 4 1/3 innings for the victory.

The Indians (14-6) scored six runs in their final two at-bats to erase a 3-1 deficit and win the second game.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Westlake 1, Hart 0--Left-hander Kelly DeArman pitched an eight-inning no-hitter and struck out 10 for the Warriors (14-4) in a Thousand Oaks tournament pool play game.

But the Indians (14-3) won the pool because Westlake lost, 3-2, to Louisville, and Hart beat Louisville, 5-0, in other games Saturday. Hart won the tie-breaker because the Indians allowed fewer runs than Westlake.

Camarillo 2, Millikan 1--The Scorpions scored in the eighth on a single by Jefflyn Spahr and an error, giving them a victory in a Thousand Oaks tournament pool play game. Camarillo (15-2-1) beat St. Paul, 2-0, earlier in the day.

Notre Dame 3, Ontario 1--The Knights’ Angela Rostein carried a no-hitter into the seventh and finished with 10 strikeouts and one walk as Notre Dame (9-7) beat the Jaguars in pool play of the Paraclete tournament.

Newbury Park 2, Hoover 1--Julie Zuckman singled home Christine Arguijo with the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth and the Panthers held on to beat the Tornadoes in a pool play game of the Thousand Oaks tournament.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Ventura 7, Cuesta 5--Brandon Knight won the Western State Conference North Division game, breaking the Ventura College record with his 11th victory this season.

Knight (11-3) pitched his 14th career complete game at Ventura, tying the school record held by Pirate Coach Gary Anglin.

Pierce 8, Glendale 7--Dave Cipolla scored from second on a throwing error by Glendale third baseman Frank Taormina in the bottom of the 10th, giving the host Brahmas (18-16, 13-6) a WSC South Division victory.

Cal Lutheran 11-11, Caltech 0-2--Mike Curran played all nine positions, had two hits and drove in three runs in the second game as the Kingsmen (21-10, 12-6) swept a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Caltech.

Chad Miyata had two hits and three RBIs, and Chad Sixt had four of the Kingsmen’s 14 stolen bases in the second game.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Cal State Northridge 2-3, Utah 3-1--Scia Maumausolo had four of Northridge’s nine hits as the Matadors split a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader at Utah.

The Matadors (34-13, 16-4) scored three runs in the final two innings.

Jennifer Richardson (10-4) pitched the final three innings and gave up two hits.
