Courtney Pugmire

Esperanza, Senior

Track and field

Pugmire and her distance coach, Rich Medellin, had planned for her to go after Shelley Taylor’s Orange County Championships meet record in the 1,500 meters (4:33.6 for Edison in 1992). But when they saw the hot, windy conditions, they decided to back off that quest. When the day was over, however, Pugmire had established another first: winning the 800, 1,500 and 3,000 meters. She won the 1,500 in 4:39.2, the 800 in 2:18.48 and the 3,000 in 10:21.33 and helped the Aztecs win their third consecutive county title.
