An 18-year-old suspected drug dealer shot by a police officer during a foot chase was identified as Narhon Luke, Los Angeles police said Friday.

Luke was hit three times in the hip and leg and is expected to survive, Lt. John Dunkin said. Officers were driving through Pacoima about 6:15 p.m. Thursday when they saw Luke talking with two men, Dunkin said.

The officers, who were on a narcotics suppression detail, pulled over to approach the three men but Luke fled, Dunkin said. The officers chased him over a back wall, through an alley and into a back yard of a house in the 13000 block of Filmore Avenue. Officers saw a gun dangling from Luke’s pants pocket and ordered him to drop the weapon and surrender, Dunkin said.

Instead, Luke turned and pointed the 9-millimeter semiautomatic weapon at the officers, Dunkin said.

Officer Eric Windham, 31, an eight-year Police Department veteran, fired three rounds at Luke, who was listed in stable condition Friday at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center.

Officers found rock cocaine on Luke, Dunkin said. Police said Luke will be booked on suspicion of assaulting a peace officer with a deadly weapon.
