Police Shoot Armed Man in Hotel Lobby

A man shot and wounded by police in a hotel lobby after he reportedly kidnaped a resident and waved a shotgun early Sunday was identified as Robert Hodo, police said.

Hodo, 25, a transient, forced an Anaheim man in a nearby residential area to drive him around, police said. He demanded that the victim take him to the Crown Sterling Suites on East Frontera Street, where the victim jumped out of the car and escaped, Anaheim Police Sgt. Steve Rodig said.

Alarmed hotel workers called police around 12:30 a.m. to report an armed man in the hotel lobby. Three Anaheim police officers who responded to the call fired their service weapons when the man refused to surrender and pointed the loaded weapon at them, police said.

Hodo was shot several times in the lower torso and was arrested on suspicion of kidnaping and aggravated assault on police.

“None of the wounds were life-threatening,” Rodig said.

Hodo remains in stable condition at Western Medical Center in Anaheim, he added.
