Two teen-agers spent Sunday recuperating from gunshot wounds suffered in a drive-by shooting, authorities said.

An unidentified gunman in a passing car shot the two boys, a 17-year-old from Placentia and a 15-year-old from Anaheim, at 12:34 a.m. Saturday while they were walking in the 700 block of west La Jolla Street, Placentia police dispatcher Steve Wiest said.

The two were hit in a spray of bullets in front of 752 W. La Jolla St., a neighborhood in the southwest corner of the city known to have gang activity, Wiest said.

Neither of the two injured boys was identified because of their ages, Wiest said.

The 17-year-old was shot twice, once in each forearm, and one of the bullets also hit one of his fingers, Wiest said.

The 15-year-old was wounded in his right leg.

The wounds were considered serious but not life-threatening, Wiest said.

Police were notified of the shooting by a La Jolla Street resident who found the 17-year-old at her front door, Wiest said.

At 12:49 a.m., a nurse in the emergency room of Placentia-Linda Community Hospital called police and said the 15-year-old victim had come to the hospital for treatment and had been released, Wiest said.

The incident remains under investigation.
