AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Valley South Defeats Burbank South in Wild Fashion, 6-5

A wild pitch with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning allowed Alberto Flores to score the winning run in Valley South’s 6-5 victory over Burbank South on Saturday in a season-opening District 20 game at Birmingham High.

Ronny Reynoso had three hits for Valley South, including a run-scoring double in the fourth inning, and Donnie Wingo added a two-run single. Flores and Fernando Centeno both finished with two hits and two runs scored.

Burbank South (0-1) scored four unearned runs.

Woodland Hills East 3, North Hollywood West 0--Dusty Cook faced one batter over the minimum and threw 72 pitches in a complete game for Woodland Hills East (1-0). Cook finished with two strikeouts and one walk. Greg Venger had three hits and scored a run for Woodland Hills East.

San Fernando 13, Sepulveda 4--Robert Tirado had two hits--including a two-run triple in the third inning--and drove in four runs for San Fernando (1-0).

Tony Cardenas had three hits and drove in two runs for San Fernando, and Carlos Jimenez added a two-run single in the second as part of a six-run rally.

Quartz Hill 10, Antelope Valley South 7--Larry Phillips hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning for host Quartz Hill (1-0). Andy Borman singled twice and scored once for Quartz Hill, and Brian Garcia (1-0) pitched a complete game, allowing five earned runs and striking out eight.

DISTRICT 16

Camarillo 20, Moorpark 3--Mike Muller homered twice, doubled twice, singled, scored four runs and drove in six for Camarillo (1-0) at Moorpark.

Andy Kroenberger added a double and a run-scoring triple for Camarillo, and scored three runs.

Richard Soliz (1-0) and Joe Borchard combined on a three-hitter, with Soliz allowing one earned run and two hits, striking out six and walking one in six innings.

Ventura 9, Simi Valley 7--Jeremy Pierce’s third-inning, three-run double sparked a come-from-behind victory for host Ventura (1-0). Donnie Harrison had two hits and drove in a run for Ventura and Jason Campbell added two hits, including a two-run double in the eighth.

Brian Kavanagh had two hits, including a two-run triple for Simi Valley (0-1).
