From Staff and Wire Reports

Former Dodger first baseman Henry Rodriguez has a hairline fracture of the right leg that might have occurred while he was with the Dodgers, but Montreal Expo General Manager Kevin Malone said he has no plans to file a grievance against the Dodgers.

Rodriguez, who was traded to the Expos on May 23 in a four-player deal, will be out three to six weeks.

Rodriguez had been hobbled by a sore shin since fouling a ball of his right leg May 17, but began playing again last week. Rodriguez said the pain worsened a few days ago, and an MRI test performed Friday night revealed the fracture. The Dodgers said they never took an MRI test on Rodriguez’s leg.

“What can you do?” Malone said. “Fred [Claire] told me that he fouled a ball off his leg and missed a couple of games. The Dodgers didn’t know about it. Even if they did, I’d still have made the trade.”

Yankee owner George Steinbrenner said he is undecided on whether to offer a contract to Darryl Strawberry. . . . Chris Sabo, who batted .254 with one homer and eight RBIs in 20 games, was released by the Chicago White Sox. . . . As expected, Cincinnati put right-hander Jose Rijo and outfielder Deion Sanders on the 15-day disabled list. . . . Red owner Marge Schott has been found not guilty in a wrongful firing suit that resulted in disciplinary action against her by major league baseball. Schott was sued by former Red controller Tim Sabo, who alleged that he was fired in retaliation for providing testimony detrimental to Schott in a lawsuit by minority owners.
