On Monday Colorado pitcher Bill Swift, who signed a three-year, $13.1-million contract during the off-season, was put on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 28 because of a sore right shoulder. . . . San Francisco activated right-hander William VanLandingham from the disabled list and sent former replacement player Joel Chimelis back to triple-A Phoenix. . . . Baseball owners gather today in Minneapolis to count their losses and try to figure out what to do next in their 2 1/2-year-old negotiations with the players’ union. Going into the three-day session, it didn’t appear any major decisions would be made. . . . Kevin Tapani of Minnesota and Craig Shipley of Houston settled their salary arbitration cases, and Baltimore pitcher Ben McDonald argued his case before an arbitrator. McDonald, who made $2,675,000 last season, asked for $4.5 million and the Orioles offered $3.2 million. Arbitrator Pat Hardin is expected to rule today. Tapani agreed to a one-year deal worth $3.6 million, a raise of $1,025,000. Shipley agreed to a one-year contract worth $562,500, more than double his $275,000 salary last year. . . . Chico Lind, who left Kansas City last week, has returned to Puerto Rico to be with his family and deal with personal problems, agent Eliseo Rodriguez said. Edgar Caceras, a utility player, was brought up from the Royals’ triple-A club to take Lind’s place on the roster.
