Summer Is a Good Time for Warming Up to Dance Scene : Families can swing into action at community centers, civic events and clubs.

With school almost out for the summer, now’s the time to get your kids interested in country-western dancing. It’s great aerobic exercise and an inexpensive activity the family can do together. Here are some activities to choose from:

* Country duo Sibling Rivalry will entertain at Camarillo Village Square, 2510 Las Posas Road, as part of Western Day, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Radio station KTND will give away prizes, Rick Henderson will teach line dances and kids from SADDLS dance team will perform. Also on tap: pony rides and barbecue. For details, call 644-9555.

* Catch Saturday Night Country Fever at the popular monthly smoke- and alcohol-free family dances sponsored by local recreation and park districts. Lessons start at 7 p.m. and bands play from 8 to 11 p.m. All ages are welcome. Chips and salsa are free. This month at the Borchard Community Center, 190 Reino Road in Newbury Park, Sue Saunders teaches, followed by the Rick Tucker Band. Admission is $5. For information, call 498-3124.

The Camarillo Community Center, 1605 E. Burnley St., features dance instructor Dave Howells and the Rhythm Rangers. Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for ages 11 and under. For details, call 482-1996.

* Old Santa Ynez Days kick off Friday at 7 p.m. with a spaghetti feed at the rustic Maverick Saloon. Crossfire takes the stage at 9 p.m. in the adjoining dance hall, a remodeled barn with a 1,000-square-foot dance floor.

Highlights on Saturday include a parade at 11 a.m. on Sagunto Avenue, a gunfight show, dance team demonstrations, and food and crafts booths. Boogie to live country by the Toni Anderson Band, from 2 to 6 p.m. Up the street, Cross Country will play noon to 5 p.m. And Crossfire returns to the dance hall from 7 p.m. until closing. On Sunday, the dance hall features the Toni Anderson Band, 5 to 9 p.m.

* The Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks opens its doors to families starting at 4 p.m. Sunday. The line-dance lessons, 5 to 7 p.m., are geared to children. And SADDLS dance teams, for ages 5 to 15, frequently practice and perform on these nights. The $5 per person includes a buffet dinner. The Borderline is at 99 Rolling Oaks Drive. * At the California Old-Time Fiddlers jam sessions, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Sunday of each month in Oak View, veteran players are glad to coach little musicians. Line-dance lessons are at 3:15 p.m. Visitors are welcome. Family or single membership includes a monthly newsletter. The sessions take place at Oak View Community Center, 18 Valley Road. * Youths age 16 and older have discovered that Tuesday is Country Night at Simi Valley’s Splash Night Club in the Radisson Hotel, 999 Enchanted Way. Rick Henderson teaches at 6:30 p.m. and spins tunes from 8 p.m. to closing. Minors can stay until 9:30 p.m. This bargain date for young minimum-wage slaves starts at 5 p.m. The $5 cover includes a barbecue buffet. Call 583-2000.

* At 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday, folks of all ages hit the 14,000-square-foot floor at Ventura’s Skating Plus for a lesson with David Graves and deejay tunes until 11:30 p.m. Admission to this smoke- and alcohol-free family event is $5. The rink is at 1720 Mesa Verde Ave. Call 656-2120.

* Country-western line dancing for kids is taught by Selena Mansur. The two-week course runs Mondays through Thursdays beginning June 19 at the Thousand Oaks Community Center, 2525 N. Moorpark Road. Ages 5 to 7 meet at 10 a.m., ages 6 to 8 at 11 a.m. and ages 9 to 12 at 9 a.m. The cost is $39. To register, call 492-2461.
