A man was stabbed to death in the Oakwood section of Venice after an argument between two longtime friends escalated into a fight, Los Angeles police reported.
Witnesses said the victim was chased by a knife-wielding man down Rose Avenue at 7:10 p.m. Sunday. The chase ended near the intersection of Rose and 4th avenues, where the victim was stabbed several times in the upper torso, police said.
He died at 8 p.m. at UCLA Medical Center, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said. The victim is not being identified pending notification of relatives.
Shortly after the stabbing, Alberto Martinez, 33, of Venice was arrested on suspicion of murder, said Detective Joe Lumbreras of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The two men, who knew each other when they lived in Mexico, had been drinking together at Martinez’s home in the 300 block of Rose Avenue when the fight broke out, Lumbreras said.
