Calabasas, Agoura Hills Will Celebrate New Parks
The cities of Calabasas and Agoura Hills will hold ceremonies Saturday for new parks in their communities.
Agoura Hills will mark the completion of its newly completed equestrian facility at 5301 Chesebro Road with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
Calabasas will hold a groundbreaking at 2 p.m. for its planned Juan Bautista de Anza Park, which is at Las Virgenes and Lost Hills roads.
The Old Agoura Park Equestrian Facility is the first phase of a 10-acre park that will replace a smaller park nearby. The equestrian facility was constructed with a $600,000 grant from the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy.
The first phase of the park also includes a baseball field and children’s playground. The city is seeking funding for the final phase, which includes a full-size basketball court and 1,500-square-foot recreation building.
The equestrian center, between Chesebro Road, Colodny Drive and Driver Avenue, will be free and open to users from throughout the region. The facility will link up with a portion of the Zuma Ridge Trail, an equestrian trail running through the county.
Calabasas’ new $2-million park will cover 8 1/2 acres and was funded through a Los Angeles County bond measure, Proposition A, which sets aside money to build parks.
It will include a recreation center, conference room, office space and a kitchenette, city officials said. There also will be a picnic area and barbecue pits that can accommodate as many as 200 people.
