MOTOR SPORTS : Rayburn Still on Track After Three Weeks Off

Super Late Model racing returned to Saugus Speedway after a three-week absence and picked up where it left off.

After two restarts and eight yellow flags, Craig Rayburn claimed his second consecutive victory in the 50-lap feature in front of 2,148 Saturday night.

Rayburn inherited the lead on Lap 13 when Vince Tjemeland was black-flagged for rough driving.

But it wasn’t an easy victory for Rayburn, with Sean Woodside on his bumper for the final 37 laps.

Woodside, who is the points leader, nearly caught Rayburn coming off a yellow flag on Lap 47.

Rayburn came out of Turn 4 a little loose and Woodside tried to sneak by on the inside.

Rayburn straightened out just in time and held him off.

Brian Horst of Reseda remained undefeated in Pure Stock racing by claiming the 15-lap main.

Horst, who has won three times, started from the rear of a five-car field but caught up quickly.

By Lap 4, Horst challenged Gary Dionne for the lead. He passed Dionne two laps later and led the rest of the way.

In Mini Stocks, Terry Limberpoulos outdistanced the field and took his third checkered flag of the season. Limberpoulos started 11th, but took the lead from Robert Hynes of West Hills on Lap 6.
