NATIONAL LEAGUE ROUNDUP : In a Pinch, Reds Blast Past Braves

Eric Anthony and Eddie Taubensee hit pinch-homers in Cincinnati’s five-run eighth inning as the Reds beat the Atlanta Braves, 9-8, in a power struggle Thursday at Cincinnati.
Jerome Walton and Reggie Sanders also hit homers for Cincinnati, and David Justice, Charlie O’Brien and Chipper Jones connected for the Braves.
The Reds trailed, 8-4, in the eighth before Anthony’s three-run, two-out homer off Mark Wohlers brought the Reds within one run. After Damon Berryhill doubled, Taubensee homered off Pedro Borbon (0-1) to complete the comeback.
Xavier Hernandez (5-0) pitched one inning, and Jeff Brantley pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save.
Colorado 3, San Diego 2--Armando Reynoso combined with five relievers for a six-hitter, winning his first start in 13 months as the Rockies won at San Diego.
Reynoso (1-0) gave up two runs and five hits in five innings, with one strikeout and a walk. Mike Munoz gave up the only other Padre hit, and Bruce Ruffin retired Phil Clark with a runner on second for his eighth save.
Padre left-hander Glenn Dishman (0-1) made his major league debut and gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings.
Chicago 13, Houston 2--Sammy Sosa hit a three-run homer and drove in five runs and Shawon Dunston returned from a two-game suspension with a two-run double at Houston as the Cubs dealt the Astros their seventh consecutive home loss.
The Astros had just returned from winning seven games on a nine-game road trip and dropped to 7-16 in the Astrodome. They are 19-9 on the road.
Dunston was suspended by the league for shoving Colorado’s Jason Bates in a sliding incident at second base on June 11.
Philadelphia 8, New York 2--Mariano Duncan had four hits and scored three times as the Phillies roughed up rookie Bill Pulsipher and beat the Mets at New York.
The Phillies completed a four-game sweep, won their sixth in a row and their eighth in a row on the road. Tom Marsh, who drove in three runs, Charlie Hayes and Jim Eisenreich each had three of Philadelphia’s season-high 19 hits.
Michael Mimbs (6-1) doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning. He began the game one for 17 as a hitter in the majors, and had never scored.
Pulsipher (0-2) was tagged for 14 hits in 6 2/3 innings.
