Franklin QB Adame In Midyear Form at Games : Football: He throws for 258 yards and four TDs as the Panthers defeat Centennial of Corona, 26-13.

Quarterback Alec Adame threw for 258 yards and four TDs on 24 of 32 completions--including 15 in a row--as Franklin High defeated Centennial of Corona, 26-13, to win the football competition of the All Sport L.A. Watts Games at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The defending Northern Conference champion Panthers (10-2 last season) showed no ill effects from losing the potent passing combination of Jeff Deno and Johnnie Sanders.

“We’re small and not too fast, but we run great routes and make the right decisions,” Franklin Coach Armando Gonzalez said.

Adame hooked up with Carlos Corona for touchdown passes of 25, 15 and nine yards as Franklin raced to an early 19-0 lead. Corona finished with five receptions for 63 yards, and teammates Oscar Canela (six catches for 73 yards and a touchdown) and Freddie Hernandez (seven catches for 74 yards) were also key targets for Adame, who will be a senior next year.

With the trophy in hand, Gonzalez, who has four City Championships to his credit, said: “It was great to be here and great for our kids to be participants while spreading peace and harmony among the races.”

Centennial made the game interesting in the second half when senior quarterback Eric Aragon hit senior wideout Jason Hovarth on a nine-yard TD pass and later found junior Damien Barton open in the end zone for a five-yard score.

The Panthers had advanced to the Watts Games final by defeating Morningside, 19-0, in the semifinals. Centennial defeated Salesian, 19-7, in the other semifinal.

Franklin also scored wins over Hawthorne (14-13), Pomona (21-0) and a forfeit win over Cleveland in the first round.

Adame, a senior next season, threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions against Morningside.

The Panthers exploded to an early 19-0 lead, as Adame hit Carlos Corona three times for touchdowns of 25, 15 and nine yards.

Corona had five catches for 63 yards.

The Salesian Mustangs were the surprise of the Games.

After defeating Locke, Los Angeles and South Torrance, Salesian advanced to face Centennial in the semifinals.

Salesian’s senior returning quarterback, Art Gonzalez, was relatively ineffective, completing only six of 16 passes for 78 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.

Salesian’s new coach, Chris Griego, inserted David Hernandez, who went four for eight with two interceptions.

The junior hit quarterback-turned-receiver Gonzalez in the end zone for the Mustangs’ only score.

Gonzalez caught two passes for 32 yards, while senior Rafael Morales had four catches for 76 yards.
