Fullerton’s Noe Shoots 72 at Public Links
Terry Noe of Fullerton shot a 72 in the first round of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championships on the 6,807-yard, par-71 Stow Acres Country Club on Monday in Stow, Mass.
Noe shot 33 on the first nine but followed it with a 39 on the second nine. Brian Ricketts of Alhambra, who played at Cypress College, shot 73 and Lee Kinney, who played at Saddleback College, shot 74. Kinney is from Red Wing, Minn.
Alan Baxter of San Antonio set a tournament record with a first-round 65. After another round of stroke play today, the field is cut to 64 and match play starts.

Shawn Patchell has been hired as the girls’ basketball coach at Irvine High School, Athletic Director Rick Curtis announced.
Patchell, an Irvine graduate, was the Vaqueros’ junior varsity coach last season. She replaces Connie Brazell, who was hired as the Villa Park girls’ coach.
The Vaquero JV team was 22-2 last season.
Patchell played basketball and volleyball at Irvine. She was a standout volleyball player at BYU and played professionally in Spain.
