OUTLOOK
DeFries had a possible league favorite until two-year starting quarterback Jim Kirkland abruptly quit with personal problems. DeFries said Kirkland would have been a highly recruited player. DeFries also lost two starting linemen to grades. Still, Loara has enough talent remaining to keep it in the race for a playoff spot and possibly a league title.
