Highly Ranked Titan Men’s Soccer Team Opens Saturday
The Cal State Fullerton men’s soccer team, ranked sixth in the nation by two national publications, will open its season Saturday in the Reebok Invitational at Titan Stadium.
The Titans meet Penn State at 8 p.m. after UCLA faces Vermont at 5:30 p.m.
In the tournament’s second round Monday, Fullerton plays Vermont at 3:30 p.m., after the UCLA-Penn State game at 1.
UCLA is ranked second and eighth by Soccer America and Soccer News. Virginia is No. 1.
Coach Al Mistri has seven regulars back from the Titan team that was within one victory of reaching the NCAA semifinals for the second consecutive year. Top-ranked Indiana defeated Fullerton, 2-1, in the third round of the playoffs after the Titans beat San Diego and San Francisco.
Fullerton career scoring leader Eddie Soto completed his eligibility, but forward Matt Bradbury returns along with midfielders Al Partida, Joey Franchino, Charlie Lynch and Tony Jaime. Bradbury was second to Soto in scoring last season.
