A 16-year-old boy died Saturday, four days after a lightning bolt hit his helmet during football practice.

Douglas Clay Jones died at Baylor University Medical Center, a nursing administrator said.

Jones, who had suffered cardiac arrest and burns, was the most seriously injured of 16 people hospitalized after the lightning strike Tuesday in Forney, 20 miles east of Dallas.

Coaches tried cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

About 100 varsity and junior varsity players were working out on a practice field at Forney High School when the lightning struck.
