Despite the talk that Dodger all-star catcher Mike Piazza should move to another position to preserve his career, Al LaMacchia, vice president of the Toronto Blue Jays, scoffs at the idea.

LaMacchia not only believes that Piazza will be the finest hitting catcher in the game’s history but one of the best defensively. “The thing that everyone forgets is that this kid is learning how to be a catcher in the major leagues,” LaMacchia said.

The Dodgers have decided that Ramon Martinez will make his next start Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants instead of Tuesday.

That will enable Martinez to start the first game of the Rocky series, instead of missing the series entirely.

The Dodgers also slightly juggled their rotation and will pitch Tom Candiotti on Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals and Kevin Tapani on Saturday.
