E.J. Watson ran for two second-half touchdowns, and senior safety Greg Myers thwarted a late Air Force rally with an interception as Colorado State knocked off the No. 21 Falcons, 27-20, Saturday in a Western Athletic Conference game at Air Force Academy, Colo.

“I knew when they went in motion with that guy [receiver Jake Campbell] coming across that they were going to go to him,” Myers said. “I just broke on the ball. When I tipped that ball up, I thought, ‘Please don’t let him catch it.’ ”

Daren Wilkinson threw two touchdown passes to Paul Turner as the Rams opened defense of their WAC title with their fourth consecutive victory over Air Force.

“Greg Myers made a great play at the end of the game,” Air Force Coach Fisher DeBerry said. “He’s a heck of a football player, and he really rose to the occasion. I’m glad he’s graduating.”

Colorado State (2-1 overall, 1-0 in the WAC) mounted three consecutive 80-yard scoring drives to start the second half to take a 27-14 lead with 14:31 remaining.

Quarterback Beau Morgan of Air Force (2-1, 2-1) capped a 66-yard drive with a 10-yard run, making it 27-20 with 8:06 left.

Fresno State 56, Pacific 24--Michael Pittman and Charlie Jones each scored two first-half touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs at Fresno.

Pittman, who sat out the second half because of a bruised knee, scored on a seven-yard run in the first quarter and Fresno State (3-0) scored three touchdowns in a span of less than four minutes early in the second quarter.

Jones scored on a 25-yard pass from Richie Donati, and barely a minute later, Joe Barnes returned a blocked punt 13 yards for a touchdown. Pittman then had an 18-yard scoring run, giving the Bulldogs a 28-0 lead.

Pacific (1-2) scored on a 40-yard field goal by Roger Fleenor, but Fresno State came right back with a 17-yard scoring pass from Jim Arellanes to Jones.

Wyoming 52, Hawaii 6--The Cowboys, coming off a 34-10 loss to Air Force in their opener, looked like a different team in the WAC victory at Laramie, Wyo.

“Needless to say, that was refreshing to play that way after the way we struggled last week,” Wyoming Coach Joe Tiller said.

Said Hawaii Coach Bob Wagner: “I thought [the Cowboys] played a lot better than they did a week ago against Air Force and we give them all the credit.”

Quarterback Josh Wallwork passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two more to lead the Cowboys (1-1, 1-1). He passed for 280 yards and ran for 120.

Wyoming gained a total of 659 yards, including 325 on the ground.

Utah 36, New Mexico 9--Mike Fouts threw four touchdown passes and Juan Johnson ran for 119 yards in the Utes’ WAC opener at Albuquerque.

Fouts, the nephew of NFL Hall of Famer Dan Fouts, completed 15 of 21 passes for 285 yards and twice tossed touchdown passes off third-and-long situations for Utah (1-2).

“He has the ability to make big plays,” Utah Coach Ron McBride said of Fouts. “He was awesome.”

Fouts found Kevin Dyson open on a 36-yard scoring pass early in the second quarter and flipped a screen pass to Rocky Henry on third and eight that went for a 57-yard touchdown on the Utes’ first possession of the second half.

New Mexico (1-1) was ineffective all night.

The nine points were its least since a 35-0 loss to Brigham Young in 1992 and Lobo defenders consistently missed tackles as Utah finished with 508 yards.

Texas-El Paso 34, Valdosta State 24--Toraino Singleton ran for 232 yards and scored two touchdowns, sparking UTEP (1-2) to its first victory of the season in a nonconference game at El Paso.

Singleton carried 37 times, one shy of his school mark. UTEP went to him on 13 of its first 14 plays.

UTEP trailed, 17-10, at halftime, but any hope Valdosta (1-2) entertained ended when the Miners scored on their first two possessions of the third quarter.
