Sophomore reserve quarterback Jeff Grady started the second half and connected with Brandon Boerner in the end zone with 36 seconds remaining to give Edison a 14-7 victory over Costa Mesa Thursday night at Newport Harbor High School.

Grady completed six of eight passes for 59 yards.

Brodie Riederich, who injured his knee against Capistrano Valley and was thought to be out for the season, played the entire game on defense. But his highlight came on third and goal with 10:20 left in the game, when he ran up the middle for a five-yard touchdown, giving Edison a 7-0 lead.

Costa Mesa (1-2) tied the score on the ensuing kickoff when Brian Reeves returned the ball 94 yards for a touchdown.
