FAIRPLEX : Pedroza Wins Feature and Three Other Races

Jockey Martin Pedroza won four races at Fairplex Park in Pomona on Monday, including the $49,500 Bangles and Beads Stakes aboard favored Airistar.

The 4-year-old California-bred daughter of Prospective Star covered the 6 1/2 furlongs on a fast track in 1:16 3/5 to win by 3 1/2 lengths and earn $27,500 for owners David Abrams, Vic Johnson, Jack Nakkashian and Tom Roberts.

Dezibelle’s Star, ridden by Danny Sorenson, rallied from last to gain second, a length in front of Dancing Ovation in the field of seven fillies and mares.

Janet Garrison, Sophisticatedcielo, Laguna Seca and Martha’s Girl completed the order of finish.

Pedroza’s other three victories came aboard Long Distance Lady in the seventh race, Hoist The Winner in the ninth and Moveable Type in the 11th.

Gundaghia, seeking his sixth career Pomona Stakes victory, is the 8-5 morning line favorite in today’s feature race, the $50,000-guaranteed Governor’s Cup at 6 1/2 furlongs.

The 8-year-old gelding won the race in 1992 and 1993.

First post time is 1 p.m.

Total attendance Monday was 10,284, of which 3,600 was on-track. Total handle was $3,003,655, of which $653,544 was on-track.
