Highway Reopens as Risk of Fire Abates
Associated Press
PALM SPRINGS —
California 111 reopened Tuesday and residents of Snow Creek Village returned to their cabin homes as the fire danger abated in that immediate area, authorities said.
But gusty winds Tuesday continued to whip flames, which have consumed 2,500 acres of desert brushland.
No structures have been burned and no injuries were reported.
An arsonist touched off the fire Monday afternoon near Cabazon, 100 miles east of Los Angeles in an area south of Interstate 10 and west of California 111.
