PREP EXTRA / ORANGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL : Nemeth’s Touchdowns Lead Aliso Niguel Past Santiago

Scott Nemeth threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more to lead Aliso Niguel to a 35-23 victory over Santiago Friday night in a nonleague game at Aliso Niguel High School.

Nemeth got the Wolverines on the board first when he scrambled and connected with a wide-open John Hefty for a 32-yard touchdown. Nemeth teamed up with Hefty again for the two-point conversion to give Aliso Niguel an 8-0 lead.

Santiago (3-2) came back with a a 34-yard field goal from George Ruiz and, after Victor Martinez intercepted a Nemeth pass at the Wolverine 27, Octavio Villa scored five plays later on an 11-yard run to give Santiago a 9-8 lead.

Nemeth capped a 10-play, 65-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run. The Wolverines (4-1) added the two-point conversion when Hefty threw to Cory Chandler, making the score 16-9.

After Aliso Niguel’s Nick Tarasevich intercepted Santiago’s Ben Tran at the Cavaliers’ 41, Nemeth took the Wolverines to another score. He threw 36 yards to Andrew Mashburn and ran twice on the drive, including a two-yard touchdown run to make the score 22-9 at the half.

If the first half belonged to Nemeth, the second half belonged to the Wolverine rushing game.

Led by Nick Gerasimou, who had 109 yards, including 63 in the second half, Aliso Niguel controlled the ball and the game.
