Columbia ended the nation’s longest Division I winning streak at 24 games with a 24-14 victory over Penn on Saturday at New York.

Penn, 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Ivy League, had not lost since Nov. 7, 1992 when it was beaten, 20-14, at Princeton. Penn’s 24-game winning streak was a record for I-AA play.

Quarterback Mike Cavanaugh scored on runs of 34 and two yards for the Lions (2-1-1, 2-0).

Omari Walker rushed for 120 yards and one touchdown and Boston College’s defense forced a pair of key turnovers deep in its own territory to lead the Eagles (2-3, 2-0) to a 17-0 Big East victory over Pittsburgh (2-4, 0-2) at Boston. . . . Syracuse (4-1, 2-0) recorded an easy 31-14 Big East victory over Temple (0-5, 0-2) at Syracuse, N.Y. . . . Virginia Tech (3-2) limited Navy (2-3) to 126 rushing yards and overcame four turnovers for a 14-0 victory at Annapolis, Md. . . . Princeton (4-0, 2-0) recorded a 21-19 Ivy League victory over Brown (2-2, 0-2) at Providence, R.I. . . . Chris Hetherington scored three second-half touchdowns as Yale (2-2) overcame a 10-0 halftime deficit for a 28-17 victory over Holy Cross (0-4) at Worcester, Mass. . . . Chad Levitt ran for 142 yards, one touchdown and the deciding two-point conversion as Cornell (3-1, 2-1) recorded a 28-27 Ivy League victory over Harvard (1-3, 0-2) at Ithaca, N.Y. . . . Greg Smith gained 151 yards and scored a touchdown as Dartmouth (2-2) recorded a 14-7 victory over Lafayette (1-3-1) at Hanover, N.H. . . . Eric Richards kicked two 27-yard field goals, including the game-winner, as Cincinnati (2-4) recorded a 13-10 victory over East Carolina (3-3) at Cincinnati.

Cody Ledbetter tied a school record with five touchdown passes and became the school’s career passing yardage leader in leading New Mexico State (2-4, 1-0) to a 48-13 Big West victory over Louisiana Tech (4-2, 1-2) at Las Cruces, N.M. Ledbetter, with 341 yards, has 5,865 yards, surpassing the 5,780 yards by Joe Pisarcik from 1971-73. . . . Charles Talley rushed for 214 yards and two touchdowns in 25 carries as Northern Illinois (3-3, 3-0) rolled to a 62-14 Big West victory over Nevada Las Vegas (1-5, 1-1) at De Kalb, Ill. The Huskies’ 683 yards total offense was the second highest in the school’s history. In 1990, they beat Fresno State, 73-18, and rolled up 806 yards. The 62 points were the second most they have scored. . . . Mike Maxwell threw for 359 yards and four touchdowns to lead Nevada (3-2) to a 56-24 victory over North Texas (1-4) at Reno.

Heath Graham passed for 276 yards as Southern Mississippi (4-2) overcame six turnovers for a 25-21 victory over Louisville (3-3) at Hattiesburg, Miss.
