Fire Damages 2 Stanton Apartments

Share

A fire gutted two apartments Tuesday night, causing an estimated $50,000 in damage.

Neighbors in the 10200 block of Fern Avenue heard screams and saw flames shooting from a window of an apartment building about 7:40 p.m. and called 911, said Capt. Dan Young, spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority. As firefighters arrived, the fire had spread toward the eaves, Young said.

“A window on the second floor broke and the fire went into the upstairs apartment,” he said. “The three people who were living upstairs got out.”

The family of four in the downstairs unit also escaped, and no injuries were reported, authorities said. Thirty firefighters needed about 30 minutes to control the blaze, which had burned two of six apartments in the building.

Authorities also evacuated almost 20 other residents of the Faircrest Apartments while they worked to control the fire. The evacuees were scheduled to return to their building Tuesday night.
