PREP ROUNDUP : No. 8 Rosary Beats Corona Centennial in Tennis

Rosary, ranked eighth in the Southern Section Division III poll, defeated sixth-ranked Corona Centennial, 11-7, in a nonleague tennis match Wednesday at Centennial.

The Royals (11-7) won all nine singles sets and Eleanor Luzano and Michelle Hamilton swept their singles sets without losing a game. Centennial is 8-3.

In another nonleague match:

Fountain Valley 11, Foothill 7--Jenny Hipp swept her sets, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, for Fountain Valley (6-5).

In Coastal League girls’ tennis:

San Diego Francis Parker 10, St. Margaret’s 8--Jean Freeman swept, 6-0, 6-2, 6-0, and Alyson Barker won two of three singles sets for St. Margaret’s (4-7, 1-4).

In South Coast League boys’ cross-country:

Mission Viejo 23, San Clemente 32--Mark Gleason won the three-mile race in 15 minutes 45 seconds for Mission Viejo (1-2) at Laguna Niguel Park. Scott Harlan was the top finisher for San Clemente, taking second in 15:47.

Mission Viejo won the final three positions with David Santos finishing third in 16:30, David Beydler in fourth (16:40) and James Heydinger in fifth (16:44).

Capistrano Valley 25, Dana Hills 31--Greg Hunter finished first in 15:54 for Capistrano Valley (3-0) on Laguna Niguel Park’s three-mile course.

In South Coast League girls’ cross-country:

Mission Viejo 24, San Clemente 33--Alison Casserly finished in first place for Mission Viejo (2-1) in 20:01. Taryn D’Agostino took third for the Diablos in 20:13 at Laguna Niguel Park.

Dana Hills 17, Capistrano Valley 42--Fourth-ranked Dana Hills (3-0) was led by Sydney Leonard (18:56), Laura Croninger (19:00) and Bree Denison (19:34) on Laguna Niguel Regional Park’s three-mile course.

In nonleague girls’ volleyball:

Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 3, Corona del Mar 0--The Sea Kings lost, 15-12, 15-8, 15-12, to Mira Costa, ranked fourth in Division I. Kelly Campbell had 22 kills and Nicole Marshall added 10 for Corona del Mar (2-4).

In the Golden West League:

Ocean View 3, Santa Ana 0--Shelby Jameson had eight kills for Ocean View (7-0, 3-0), which won, 15-7, 15-1, 15-2. The Seahawks are ranked second in Division II.

Rosary 3, Saddleback 0--Sarah Cody had seven kills and five aces for Rosary (7-2, 3-0) in its 15-4, 15-4, 15-4 victory.

Tustin 3, Westminster 0--Michelle Kowalski had 14 kills and Kim Speicher had five blocks for visiting Tustin (2-5, 1-2), which won, 15-7, 15-6, 15-9.
