Chapman Sets Scoring Record in Rout of Menlo : College football: Panthers’ 79-13 victory sets a mark for largest margin of victory for the revived program.

A year after handing Menlo College its worst loss in school history, Chapman bettered that mark with a 79-13 victory Saturday at Menlo College.

It was also the biggest margin of victory for Chapman, which defeated Menlo last season, 62-0.

Chapman (5-1) piled up 623 yards in total offense, averaged more than 15 yards a play and never had to punt.

Darnell Morgan led the Chapman running attack, which totaled 399 yards, rushing for 143 yards in six carries.

The Panthers scored 16 points in the first quarter, 28 in the second and 28 in the third. They led, 72-0, before the Oaks (0-6) scored.

Oscar Ford started the game with a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Two and a half minutes later, Morgan raced 27 yards for a touchdown.

Chapman began its scoring binge in the second quarter with three long touchdown passes and an interception return for score.

Josh Bravo, who completed three of six passes for 213 yards, connected with Martrice Stephens on an 84-yard touchdown pass. Morgan scored his second touchdown on a 69-yard pass five minutes later.

Nick Ruzzi, a freshman from Troy High School, intercepted a Courtney Esprecion pass and returned it 33 yards.

Ford then scored Chapman’s fourth touchdown of the quarter when he caught a 60-yard pass from Bravo with 53 seconds remaining in the half.

Chapman added four more touchdowns in the third quarter.

Morgan scored his third on a 57-yard run and Ford followed with his third on a 17-yard pass from backup quarterback Jake Galasso.

Gabe Baltodano added a 43-yard touchdown run and Frank Saiz from La Habra High picked up a fumble and rambled 46 yards for a touchdown with 3:12 remaining in the quarter.
