PREP ROUNDUP : Ocean View Holds Off Rosary in Five Games

Ocean View defeated Rosary in five games, 15-8, 14-16, 15-13, 12-15, 15-9, in a Golden West League girls’ volleyball match Wednesday at Ocean View.

Ocean View (9-0, 5-0 in league) took sole possession of first place with the victory. Reserve Sharon Shelton had four kills and four digs to spark the Seahawks in Game 5.

Shelby Jameson finished with a match-high 20 kills and teammate Katie Lindquist had 10 kills, 18 digs and six aces for Ocean View.

Sarah Cody had 14 kills and Therese McNat added 11 for Rosary (8-3, 4-1).

In another league match:

Tustin 3, Saddleback 1--Nicole Stokes had 10 kills for Tustin (4-7, 3-2), which won, 12-15, 15-6, 15-5, 15-5.

In the Academy League:

Connelly 3, Capistrano Valley Christian 2--Marissa Pollara had 23 kills and six aces for Connelly (7-1, 3-1), which won, 10-15, 15-12, 16-14, 7-15, 15-7. Carmen Fusco had 21 kills for Capistrano Valley Christian (5-4, 3-2).

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 3, Cerritos Valley Christian 0--Joey Miller had 10 kills for the Heralds (7-3, 4-2), who won, 15-13, 15-8, 15-10.

In Century League boys’ cross-country:

Foothill 15, Canyon 46--Mike Reddick won the 3.1-mile race at Irvine Park in 17:42 for Foothill (2-3).

Orange 25, El Modena 31--The Panthers (5-0), ranked fifth in the county, won their 17th consecutive league dual meet by edging the ninth-ranked Vanguards (4-1).

Nick Russell won the three-mile race at Eisenhower Park in 15:37 for Orange. But strong finishes by Robert Guerra (sixth), Victor Aranda (seventh) and Brian McCain (eighth) made the difference for Orange.

Ryan Emenaker finished second in 15:51 for El Modena (4-1).

Santa Ana Valley 17, Villa Park 41--Isidoro Lucas won the three-mile race at Irvine Park in 16:20 for No. 10 Santa Ana Valley (3-2).

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 19, La Habra 42--David Turner won the three-mile race at Hillcrest Park in 16:59 for Fullerton (3-3, 1-3).

Sunny Hills 26, Buena Park 30--Ranen Bhatacharya won the race in 16:24 for Sunny Hills. The victory moves the Lancers (4-0) into first place. Jared Garritson was the top finisher for Buena Park (3-1) in 16:35.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 27, University 29--The victory gives Costa Mesa (4-0) sole possession of first place in league. Zeke Noonan led the Mustangs with a second-place finish in 15:59. Teammate Bruce Hancock finished fourth in 16:37. University is 3-1.

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 28, Trabuco Hills 29--Only three seconds separated the top five runners, with Robby Tuttle winning in 16:01 for Dana Hills (1-3). Jason Manhart and Cody Rodriguez took second and third in 16:02 for Trabuco Hills (2-2).

Mission Viejo 26, Mater Dei 29--Matt Wickersham won the race for Mater Dei (2-2) in 15:45, but Mark Gleason (15:58) and David Santos (16:08) took second and third to lead Mission Viejo (2-2).

In Century League girls’ cross-country:

El Modena 15, Orange 48--Kim Lacher and Jessica Dahlberg were among four El Modena runners to finish in 20:48 over three miles at at Eisenhower Park.

Foothill 16, Canyon 47--Greta Martinez won the 3.1-mile race at Irvine Park in 19:35 for eighth-ranked Foothill (4-1).

Santa Ana Valley 23, Villa Park 32--Maribel Delgado won the three-mile race at Irvine Park in 19:06 for Santa Ana Valley (3-2).

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 26, Fullerton 33--Smyrna Ojeda won the three-mile race at Hillcrest Park in 19:58 for Fullerton. La Habra’s Maria Agras (19:59) finished second.

Sunny Hills 21, Buena Park 40--Heather Garritson finished first in 19:54 for Buena Park. Sunny Hills (4-0) was led by Allyson Kulak (20:03) and Tatiana Berdote (20:09), who took second and third.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 23, Estancia 33--Nicole Trott was the top runner for Aliso Niguel, taking second in 21:28. Teammate Andrea Rosien finished 23 seconds behind Trott in third. Araceli Martinez of Estancia finished first in 20:48 on the 3.1-mile course. Aliso Niguel is 3-1.

Laguna Hills 19, Laguna Beach 44--Mandy Schwecher of Laguna Hills finished first in 19:06 to set a record on the three-mile course at Alta Laguna Park. Laguna Hills improves to 3-1.

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 25, Trabuco Hills 31--Sydney Leonard won the race in 18:18 for fourth-ranked Dana Hills (4-0).

Mater Dei 15, Mission Viejo 40--The No. 10 Monarchs swept the top five places, led by Stephanie Hyink in 19:51. Mater Dei is 3-1 in league. Mission Viejo is 2-2.

In nonleague girls’ tennis:

Laguna Beach 15, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake 3--Michelle Bray of Laguna Beach won her sets, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2. Laguna Beach is 12-3.

Laguna Hills 12, Foothill 6--Suzy Stryker and Erin Terry of Laguna Hills (11-4, 4-2) swept in No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-2.
